Frequently Asked Questions
I forgot my password. How do I retrieve that information?
Click the "LOGIN" button on the top right of the home page. Enter your username and click "Forgot password?" An e-mail with a temporary password will be sent to you.
Do I have to have an e-mail address to register?
Yes. Our website uses your e-mail address to identify you and send you important information about any opportunities you sign up for. If you do not have an e-mail account, you can get one free of charge from providers like Yahoo or Hotmail. Free internet access is also available from most public libraries.
I am having difficulty registering for a project or a course as an individual.
Please make sure that you have registered and activated your account via the email link. Once activated and logged in, you will be able to sign up for projects.

- Ensure your date of birth and all required information are entered in your account profile.
- You may be under age for the specific project.
Why do you ask for my birth date when I register?
Each project has a minimum age requirement. Volunteers under the age of 13 cannot sign up online due to the Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Can I volunteer with my kids?
Yes! Some organizations allow children to volunteer with a parent, family member, teacher, or chaperone. Each opportunity specifies its age requirements.
Will I receive training from the organization I volunteer with?
Most nonprofits provide volunteer training. For one-day events, instruction is typically given on-site unless otherwise noted.
Will I need to have a background check to volunteer?
Organizations serving children, elderly, or other vulnerable groups may require a background check. Please make sure to read the project description for clarifications.
What if I am required to do community service that is court-ordered or related to a job training program?
Many nonprofits offer opportunities to fulfill service requirements. Be clear about why you need hours, how many, and by what deadline. Court Ordered approved agencies will be toggled with a search filter.
How do I volunteer with my coworkers?
HandsOn South Florida offers custom team volunteering or you can sign up together on our Opportunity Calendar. Register as a team to get confirmation details for your group.
