Organization Profile

The Miramar Community Garden is the first demonstration “micro farming system” in Broward County; a program that promotes healthy food sources of naturally-grown vegetables and fruits, a social network for garden volunteers to learn about the urban agricultural industry and the opportunity for vocational training.  The original 3,150 SF garden was built in 2010; in 2014 a $60K grant was awarded by GRO1000 Gardens and Green Spaces by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. The grant allowed for the expansion of the current 7,000 SF area which includes a fruit grove, a market garden, a butterfly garden and more  The MCG was built by the City with donations from corporate sponsors. It has become a staple for community service and hands-on learning opportunities. Since May 2010, the MCG offers an average of 20 events per year organized by member-volunteers who have donated well over 19,000 hours of service. Currently Garden members include four master gardeners, one chef, and twenty other dedicated individuals with multiple talents.
