DIY Volunteer Project: Period Positivity Kits

Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products, adequate sanitation facilities, and menstrual health education. It is a global issue that affects millions of people, predominantly women and girls, who are unable to afford or access the necessary menstrual supplies. Menstruation is also often stigmatized, leading to silence, shame, and misinformation surrounding the topic. This can further perpetuate the lack of awareness, support, and resources for those affected by period poverty.

With the rise of prices everywhere, access to quality feminine hygiene products has become difficult affecting low-income students and communities. HandsOn Miami is partnering with school counselors across South Florida to provide a stock of period positivity kits. These kits provide menstruating students with the day’s essentials while providing a reminder that periods aren’t to be ashamed of and provide a bit of joy and positivity around this bodily function.
