Family Volunteering

Interested in getting your family involved in volunteering?  You've come to the right place!  At HandsOn South Florida, we love to engage youth and families in volunteering and want to make it as easy as possible for you to get started.

How can I sign myself and my children up for a project?

In order to sign up together as a family, an adult in the family will want to form a "Team."

When you are logged in to your account, click here to Create a New Team. You fill in the names and ages of friends/family members and you're all set.  Then, when you sign up for a project, click "Sign up with a team" next to the "Sign" Up button.

Then you'll follow the prompts to sign up yourself and members of your team.  As long as there is space available in the project, and all volunteers are over the minimum age requirement, you should be all set.

Does my child need to have a waiver on file?

Yes, in order for anyone to volunteer, this waiver must be on file with our office. If you're not sure if your child's profile has been updated, please contact Rodrigo at rsotelo@handsonsouthflorida.org and he can let you know. Otherwise, print and complete the waiver and email to us or fax to 954-233-1292 and we'll keep it on file.

What projects are available for children and families?

Our Kindness Crew meets monthly to work on projects designed to be engaging for kids 5-12. Each month features a different project/issue area.  When you register for a project, you'll find out more about what's in store that month. For more information about Kindness Crew and how to sign up, click here.

Teenagers can join our Teen Service Squad to get access to a different project each month designed and led by HandsOn South Florida staff. For more information about Teen Service Squad and how to sign up, click here.

You can also check out our Youth Volunteer Guide which lists all of our age specific youth friendly volunteer opportunities.

What can we do as a family at home?

Do It Yourself ("DIY") Volunteering provides a meaningful way to engage volunteers in a non-traditional way.

Every month, HandsOn South Florida will offer a different DIY project for the ultimate flexible volunteer experience. For these projects, you'll provide the supplies (all are designed to be low-to-no-cost) and we'll give you the instructions for completing it, along with information on the benefiting agency.

I can't find a project that works for my family.  Can I make my own?

Our friends at generationOn specialize in youth and family volunteering.  Their website offers all kinds of ways for kids and their parents to get involved.  Check out their website for project ideas, and if you need any assistance, just ask Bari.
