Keep Port Everglades Shipshape: Drum Painting Project“Keep Port Everglades Shipshape” is an annual, award-winning event to encourage recycling and cleanliness at one of the world’s leading cruise and cargo ports, Port Everglades. Volunteers will have the opportunity to paint their own creative designs on used petroleum drums that have been cleaned and prepared for painting. After the painted drums have dried, they will be placed throughout the Port to be used as decorative trash receptacles. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own water-based paints (e.g., latex or acrylic) and brushes, although some basic supplies will be provided. No oil-based paints are permitted. Awards will be given for the most creative designs. Families, students, seniors and groups are welcome. For information on Port Everglades, visit www.porteverglades.net.
Be sure to bring valid government-issued photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport in order to enter the Port. All volunteers must be able to paint, and children are welcome to participate. For volunteers with disabilities, two elevated drums will be available, upon request, and portable restroom facilities will be equipped. Volunteer registration will last from 9:00-9:30 AM.
When you sign up, you will be asked to list the names of any other members of your group, as well as how many drums you would like to paint. You will be assigned drums based on availability. This painting event will take place under a tent for sun protection, but please apply sunscreen.
