Opportunity Details
The Braille Challenge
The BRAILLE CHALLENGE is a national program of the Braille Institute® hosted by regional schools and agencies that serve blind and visually impaired children. It is the only national braille literacy competition of its kind in the country, and is specifically designed to challenge and reward students who are blind for their study of braille. Proficiency in braille is essential to their future academic and employment success. Regional students who score among the top 60 nationally are invited to Braille Institute in Los Angeles for a final competition! Volunteer tasks include sight guiding, where the volunteers will be guiding our students who are blind to and from the cafeteria and testing rooms. We will show them how to guide them safely from one place to another and make sure that they feel comfortable walking with our students. Volunteer tasks will also include taking completed test to the scoring room, assisting with information for families and students, helping with activity centers, etc.
Volunteers must resgister here prior to arrival.
