Animal and Farm Care at FRIENDS Ranch 2016

FRIENDS Ranch is in need of volunteers to come out and assist with the maintenance of this horse rescue facility that houses nearly 50 animals including horses, miniature horses, goats, and donkeys. Volunteers start their shift with ranch chores like cleaning the stalls and cleaning & refilling water buckets.  Once that work is done, volunteers can interact with the animals, including grooming, braiding, and bathing. Please be sure to dress appropriately and wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty – this is a working farm and dirt/mud is to be expected.

PLEASE NOTE: The Ranch hosts their own required new volunteer orientations on the first Saturday and third Sunday of every month at 1:00 PM before you can volunteer. So be sure that if you haven't volunteered with FRIENDS Ranch before, you sign up on one of those days to attend an orientation first.  This orientation will give you important work and safety information and you can stay to volunteer right after it’s done.  Once you have attended the Ranch's orientation, volunteer hours are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays between the times listed below - rain or shine.

If you have not volunteered for FRIENDS Ranch before, you will need to complete a volunteer waiver on your first day and have a valid ID.  Minors must have a parent or guardian there on the first day to sign the paperwork and attend the orientation.

While the Ranch provides water, you are encouraged to bring your own cooler with other drinks and food if you would like.  They do not allow radios, iPods or any kind of earbuds or headphones. Because you are dealing with animals, you must be aware of your surroundings and staff must have the ability to get your attention and communicate with you in the event of an emergency.

Teams of 5 or more volunteers should email Reg at finn3of5@yahoo.com to work out a shift in advance.  More information is available at their website at www.eiahorses.org

As of January 1, 2016, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Horse Rescue will require all volunteers to become members prior to volunteering.

Choose the appropriate membership level. Fill out our Membership Application and pay online at www.eiahorses.com. If the proposed member is a minor, we will need a parent’s signature on the application and, at or before orientation, we will need a parent to come in with you and sign the releases and waivers. Once you have completed the process, sign up to attend orientation, then you will be all set to go!

  • College Student $35 /year
  • Adult $50 /year

For those that choose not to become members, we will have open WORK DAYS and non-members will be able volunteer but, as these are project-based days, there won’t be interaction with the horses.
