Earth Day Beach Sweep - City of Dania Beach
In honor of Earth Day, Keep Broward Beautiful and the City of Dania Beach are coordinating a Beach Sweep to remove litter from the city’s beach.
Come join HandsOn Broward Project Leader Crystal at this family-friendly project! Volunteers will work together to remove litter and marine debris from the beach. Marine debris is often the result of deliberate or accidental actions by people on land or at sea. For example, uncovered trash bins, litter, debris left in streets and on beaches, and items thrown overboard can all become marine debris. Items can travel far before landing on shorelines or settling in the ocean. Marine debris can come from anywhere - it can be carried by rivers, streams, and other waterways into the ocean.
Volunteers must wear proper cleanup attire:
T-shirt and shorts are acceptable. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes. No flip-flops. Volunteers wearing flip-flops will not be allowed to participate. With the South Florida heat, it is recommended that volunteers wear a hat and sunscreen, and bring their own water. It is also a good idea to bring a snack.
Volunteer check-in begins at 9 AM. All volunteers must complete the waiver available at this link - so if you can print it and bring it with you, it will speed up registration. Keep Broward Beautiful will provide trash bags and gloves for the project. Staff will conduct a short safety meeting with cleanup directions prior to the cleanup.
The minimum age to volunteer for this project is eight (8), and an adult must accompany minors. If you need assistance in signing up a team/family to volunteer, please email jennifer@handsonbroward.org.
