Environmental Day at Markham Park Nursery - Special Earth Day Edition
Join HandsOn Broward and Markham Park Nursery for a special Earth Day edition of our monthly nursery weed and feed project. Come out and help beautify and shade all the Broward County Parks for years to come!! Volunteers will be weeding and planting a variety of plants at the nursery.
The following types of work are needed:
1) Planters - Volunteers will weed and put plants into 3 gallon pots.
2) Plant Movers - Volunteers will use wagons to transport plants to designated spots on the nursery pads. Varieties will be kept separate and organized.
3) Line Makers - Volunteers will unload plants off trailers and line them up neatly onto the pad.
4) Mulchers - Mulching the pants in the Nursery.
5) Clean up crew - Sweeping off the pads and removing any dead leaves or debris. Help with the cleanup at the end of the project.
Most of the jobs will be pretty easy -- but dirty. Some of the 3 gallon plants are a bit heavy. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers/closed-toe shoes - all volunteers will be working with dirt. Hats and sunscreen are recommended. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own water and gloves for the project. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult to this project.
To make day-of registration quicker, please bring the completed Broward County Workday Volunteer Application and Waiver with you - the County requires it for all volunteers who have not undergone a county background check. The form is available by clicking here.
